Growing Pains

An Alien To The Status Quo

Random Musings

1. Fitness Is a Scam (But I’m Committed)
Daily exercise is no joke. The quest for health is no joke.
My entire body has been sore for what feels like three business years. Even the soles of my feet hurt. How? Why? Who authorized this?

But I persist. Because health. Because discipline. Because vibes.
I’m already seeing results—2 kgs down, 8 to go!
Wish me luck. Or at least wish my thighs mercy.

2. The Performance of a Perfect Life
Why do we feel the overwhelming need to show the world how perfect and put-together our lives are… when they clearly are not?

Instagram filters. Photoshop. Snapchat filters. “I woke up like this” hashtags (no, you did not).
Would it truly hurt if the world realised we are imperfect?
Would the sun fall from the sky? Would WhatsApp stop working? Would capitalism collapse?

I am also guilty of this crime. So I point the finger at myself first—then, gently, at everyone else.
I genuinely wonder what would happen if, for just one day, we collectively admitted that our shit is not as together as we pretend it is.

3. Celebrities and the Curse of Godhood
I think celebrities chase perfection—not because they want to, but because we demand it.

We’ve given them god-like status, then punish them for blinking wrong. The slightest imperfection is dissected like a biology practical.

They live in glass houses, constantly under surveillance, and honestly? That is no life for anyone. Not even with money. Not even with abs.

4. WCW: A Tragedy in One Act
I have never been anyone’s WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday).

Not once. Not accidentally. Not even as a joke.

I would really like to be someone’s WCW—just once—to know what it feels like. Is it vanity talking?
Perhaps.
But also… is it too much to ask for a cropped photo and a fire emoji?

5. Sleep: The Unexpected Plot Twist
I love that I’ve been sleeping well these past few weeks.

This is a huge deal for me, considering my long, toxic history with insomnia. It’s been on and off for years, but lately? I’ve been going to bed without any sleeping aid.

No pills. No teas. Just vibes and exhaustion.

Honestly? Character development.

6. I’m Being Hosted and I’m Trying to Be Cool About It
I am going to be hosted on the wonderful Fiona Laker’s blog this Tuesday.

She has an ongoing series on weakness, and I’m genuinely excited to participate. This will be my first time being hosted, which feels very adult and very impressive.

Look at me. Growing. Thriving. Being literary.

7. Dear Beaton, I Am Trying
My dear Beaton, I am penning your letter.

I hope to be done by the end of next week. Please know that looking up flowery words in the dictionary is hard work. Emotionally. Spiritually. Alphabetically.

But I persist. For you.

8. Poets, Talent, and Me Fangirling Calmly
I interviewed—and honestly, I think I’m still interviewing—a person who has fast become one of my favorite poets.

Seriously. Take a look at his work. He has a book out called BLVCK Ink, which I will soon be reviewing.

Yes, there will also be an interview post. Yes, I am excited. No, I am not okay.

9. Reading Goals vs. Adulting
I set out to read 20 books this week.

Adulting said, “Absolutely not.”

I only managed 13. Thirteen! Which is still impressive, but in my heart, I failed myself.

If I had one wish, I’d wish for a job where all I do is read.

Publishing companies, if you’re listening—this is a cry for help.

10. Go Read Sharon’s Work (Seriously)
Have y’all seen Sharon’s latest series? She’s talking about the first few days after a wedding.

Go read it. It’s titled The Man with Whom I Share My Bed (1), and it will make you feel things.

11. A Public Declaration
If I haven’t said it before, let me say it clearly and loudly:

I love Sinawo Bukani.

No notes. No explanations.

Happy Sunday, everyone 💛

Don’t to this to a girl again
I ran looking for the part where you write Beaton a letter only to be told my patience needed to be put to good use

    I am your first host…!?
*happy dance* though it might mean I have to keep up appearances and all… But you said it all up there… Why the fuss?

Someone once told me that once you pretend around people you will never feel loved even when your actually loved

All that said thanks for sharing.. Am also battling adding weight.. Baby steps and all

  4. Wooooww… Mable 20 books a week?? How big are these volumes?? Because the kind of adulting I am going through has had me stick with a book for over a month and a half now!! Thank you on the lead to Sharon’s post—Jeezzz, am all forms of shy RN. Also why did I blush like Beaton’s letter was fully written, maybe because the beginning evokes an interest of where it might all end (Hahaha,, forgive my insane mind)… Otherwise I sure do love your random thoughts..

    1. Cynthia my friend, insanity runs in the both of us, Lol….. The volumes are not that big, I’ve been reading Terry Pratchett’s discworld series and I’m on book 16 of 41 books…..
Thanks for reading these crazy thoughts of mine. 😅😅😅
