Growing Pains

An Alien To The Status Quo

Psalms 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.  119:98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.  119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

Last time we looked at what meditation was. You can do a quick recap in this previous post
2. What do you meditate on?
Today we’re looking at what to meditate on. To many, the answer is obvious – “Duh, the word of God” – and I agree with that; so this will be short.
In this Psalm we see what the Psalmist was meditating on. Joshua was commanded to meditate on the Law; the Psalmist took the same command up. Digging deeper here I’m noticing some things hidden in plain sight.

(Vs 97) It is apparent that you will meditate on what or whom you love. When you get a crush on someone, your mind is heavily affected – and so is your breathing, heart rate, sweat glands…a lot of Chemistry goes into play when your crush is in proximity, and when they’re not, many can testify of continued effects that even include loss of appetite and insomnia! This person can consume your mind all day and all week. One basically becomes mildly obsessed.
The Psalmist fell in love with the word of God; such that he could not stop thinking and speaking about Him all day!

(Vs 99) God has testimonies, in case someone was wondering. He testifies all the time. (When was the last time you shared a testimony of yours? But that’s for another day.)
Somehow down the road this guy was able to hear God’s testimonies. He found enough wisdom to meditate on these testimonies. And guess whose IQ surpassed his professors’!
Also noteworthy here is that intelligence is not a fixed quotient for anyone – it can be increased.

The Law, His commandments, His testimonies… they all have something in common – they all involve speech from God. They all involve God’s Word. They all involve this special person God spoke, viz. Jesus the Christ. It’s not just what you meditate on, it is equally whom you meditate on as well. Have you heard about Him? Have you read Him? Do you know Him?

In conclusion;
You will meditate on whomever you love. Do you want to meditate on the Word? Fall in love with Him.
There is wisdom hidden in the word of God.
Meditation increases your understanding.
Meditate on the Word of God.
