Growing Pains

An Alien To The Status Quo

Day 8: My Current Goals

Day 8: My Current Goals

It’s a new week—or at least, in terms of this blog challenge, it is—and the past seven days have been nothing short of wow. I’ve learned the true meaning of the word challenge. Writing every day, digging deep, being honest with myself… it hasn’t been easy.

But we push forward nonetheless.

Today I’m meant to write about five of my current goals. As it turns out, I could clearly articulate four—and trust me, they’re not small ones. So here goes…

1. Running a homeless shelter
I first shared this as a dream job on Day 4 of this challenge, but really, it’s a goal—one of the most important ones I hold.

The idea came to me one very early morning as I was heading home after overnight prayers. As I walked through the streets, still thinking about the warm bed I was about to crawl into, I saw a whole street full of people using cardboard as blankets. Cardboard.

It hit me hard. Here I was, tired but comforted by the thought of rest, while others didn’t even have the most basic comfort that many of us take for granted. In that moment, I made a quiet promise to myself: one day, I will build a place that offers these people a warm bed, hot food, and dignity. A home—not just a shelter.

2. My (slightly insane) education goals
I’m not mad, I promise.
Well… maybe just a little.

Education has always been a big part of my life, and I genuinely love learning. I already have a few certificates under my belt—Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing, Online Forex Trading. I’m a networking associate via Cisco, a certified Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma, and I hold a degree in Petroleum Geoscience and Production.

And honestly? I’m just getting started.

I’m currently studying to become a Certified Public Accountant, while also hoping to pursue web development. Why? Because I have this unexplained love for studying. I don’t particularly enjoy tests any more than the next student, but the process of learning excites me.

My goal is to earn at least four degrees, three Master’s degrees, and two PhDs. Ambitious? Absolutely. Impossible? I don’t think so.

My next degree will be in Environmental Studies. With “The Donald” declaring global warming a Chinese hoax, now more than ever we need voices that educate, advocate, and sensitize the world about climate change—before we no longer have a world to save.

3. Writing a book
I’m planning a book—one that addresses the issues a Ugandan Christian millennial faces on a daily basis. The contradictions, the pressures, the faith struggles, the modern realities we’re constantly navigating.

I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the year. The idea was inspired by a short story I wrote around this time last year titled Morning After. That little story planted a seed, and now it’s time to let it grow.

4. Travelling the world
The fourth goal of this here life of mine is to travel.
Mehn… I really want to travel.

All I’ve ever known are the plains of my very, very beautiful Uganda. And while I love my country deeply, I want to see more of the world—experience different cultures, landscapes, and ways of life. My dream destination? Cyprus.

So there you have it—four goals, each close to my heart, each shaping the future I’m working toward.

Have a good night, people.
