Kale let me start by saying how much I love this book. I’ve read it may be three times now? Before I finally got off my butt to write this review.
Odokonyero is a Writivism anthology, written by emerging Ugandan writers. And if this is a glimpse into what they have in store for us then I am excited for the future of the literary arts in this country.
The stories in this book are beautifully written, the writing styles, diverse.
The plethora of emotions I felt while reading this book ranged from sorrow to anger to absolute joy.
The Ugandan Experience, the good, the bad, the rot, is reflected in the pages of this book, with themes such as forbidden love, conflict, romance. Tales from the Northern part of Uganda, of people surviving and recovering from the war. From post colonial times to present times and the issues faced therein. Issues like abortion, mental health, Law versus Tradition.
There’s a little bit of everything.
This is truly an enjoyable read.
Verdict: Highly Recommend.
There’s a Kindle version available for those outside of Uganda.
Within Uganda, Bookpoint stores and Aristoc carry the hardcover books. Buy, Read, Enjoy.
Your review definitely got me wanting to read the book…kindly carry it tomorrow for borrowing purposes.hihihihi
