Blogging Challenge

Hey beautiful people!!!!
I know its been silent here but, its been a busy couple of days on my front so I’m going to combine day 14 and day 15 on this one blog post…the cue card is asking me to talk/write about where I see myself in 5 years time and to also share my thoughts on education.
Here goes

Where do I see myself in 5 years
I actually don’t like answering questions like this because of that saying; “We make our plans and God laughs”
Indeed…. Its true. I’ll refer you to this letter that I wrote a while back.
I was asked this question when I was 20 years old. My answer was, married, with a well paying job and few kids playing around.
I guess with age comes a little bit of wisdom. I’m 27 now, still single and for the most part content (of course I get couple envy here and there, just look at this beautiful couple.).
And I’m just starting a new job and school. Not exactly where I saw myself five years back, but I’m happy nonetheless. So who knows what the future holds…..but I hope 5 years from now, I am happy.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

My thoughts on education
Not many people know this, but my first job, out of university was teaching at an institute of higher learning. The pay sucked, the conditions abysmal, but hey I got to feed mostly old minds about the ins and outs of the petroleum industry. The one other thing I loved about that job was that I had grown men calling me Madam Mable. *Sigh* the good old days.
However my biggest challenges then were; I didn’t have much visual aid and there were no practicals so the students I taught graduated with a lot more theory than practicals which made me sad.
But it was also the very same problem I faced when I was studying.
The problem with the Ugandan system of education is we are crammed with a lot of theory and we are made to believe that this will help us excel/pass exams. We are essentially groomed to pass exams which is wrong. I believe that we should be groomed and equipped with tools for the real world and not just for the exam room.
We are also led to believe that you do not amount to anything if you have not had a formal education, making those who haven’t one, for whatever reason be inferior, …..(in the immortal twitter words of President Trump, SAD!)
In our time, we paid about a quarter of what kids today are paying…. Education is becoming unnecessarily expensive.
On the bright side, school fees is becoming a major contraceptive….bright side and all
Our whole education system needs a serious overhaul..
