Growing Pains

An Alien To The Status Quo

I am about to confess something that not a lot of people know about me. It may make you, dear reader, view me in a different light, however, I am coming out of the closet.
*Deep Breath*
I am big comic book nerd…I love me some superheroes.

I especially love DC comics. I’d argue that both DC comics and Marvel comics have their merits and demerits. And I do enjoy the Marvel comics too, especially Deadpool, but I am a DC fangirl at heart.
With iconic badass heroes and villains such as Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Supergirl, Arrow, Zatanna, Joker, Cat Woman, Poison Ivy, Riddler, Lex Luthor, Darkseid, Brainiac, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and of course, Superman… DC just grabs you…and one is able to relate to a lot of the characters.

Which is why I was extremely excited when a super friends team up was announced by the DCEU. And I knew I just had to watch it in the big screen.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was, well, the dawn of the justice league and besides that silly ‘save Martha’ scene, I actually enjoyed the movie. I re-watched it, maybe twice. Batfleck is solid as Batman, he’s self righteous, arrogant and sometimes vulnerable. As Henry Cavill is just……..Henry Cavill.(I promise these are not hearts in my eyes) Wonder Woman is of course the best part of the movie

Justice League picks up a few months after Superman’s death. With a new threat on the horizon in the form of a CGI villain called Steppenwolf. Batfleck convinces Barry Allen, Victor Stone, and Arthur Curry to join him and Wonder Woman on a mission to save the earth.
The movie doesn’t take itself too seriously like its predecessor did and is a solid two hours of fun.
And the best thing about it is the characters interaction and chemistry.
And the introduction of a really cool Aquaman…? Who would have thunk it was possible to make Arthur Curry cool? I mean, the man has been the butt of many jokes.

Of course it helps that he’s played by the absolutely amazing….looking Jason Momoa who played Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones.
There are problems, like Henry Cavill’s very obvious CGI lip, the CGI everything, a few of The Flash’s jokes don’t land as well as they hoped and a few plot holes which may have been because of Warner Bros’ mandate that the movie, which was originally two hours and fifty minutes, be cut down to two hours. Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder delivered a good movie. I liked it.
It’s a movie best watched on its own merit, without comparing it to Thor Ragnarok which came out a few weeks earlier. And I promise, it’s not money that you will waste.
Go watch it.
Now in cinemas around Kampala.

Rating: Out of 10, it’s a solid 7
